Paper Pivot Privacy Policy

Thanks for your interest in Paper Pivot! We're trying to build something genuinely useful for researchers. We also care about your privacy. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we collect it, and how you can stay in control.

1. What we collect and why

Personal information:

We only collect your email address. That's it. We use it to run the waitlist, send launch announcements, and occasional development updates about Paper Pivot.

Legal basis: your consent (you opt in when you join the waitlist) and our legitimate interest to improve Paper Pivot and communicate relevant updates.

Operational data:

Our hosting providers may process limited technical data like IP addresses in transient server logs for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.

Legal basis: legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and available).

Web analytics (privacy-first):

We use anonymous metrics to understand how you use your website and where our traffic comes from. We use this insight to improve our website, know where interest in Paper Pivot comes from, and create a better experience for visitors. We do not track you, serve personalized advertising, or sell the data to anyone. We do not use cookies.

Our website is powered by Simple Analytics, a privacy-friendly web analytics provider. You can learn more about Simple Analytics on its website.

Legal basis: Simple Analytics provides aggregate insights without personal data. No cookies, no IP storage. We rely on legitimate interests to understand site usage at a high level while preserving privacy.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

2. How we use your email

We only use your email to confirm your interest in Paper Pivot, to send launch announcements, or to send occasional progress updates related to Paper Pivot.

If you do not wish anymore to be subscribed to our waitlist, the email we send to you includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email hello@paperpivot.com to opt out.

3. Service providers (processors)

To provide the service for the waiting list and to run Paper Pivot's website, we use the following service providers:

Resend:
We use Resend for email delivery and mailing list. This includes the services to send you emails and to store your email address. Resend stores customer data in the United States. The international transfers of Resend are implemented with appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), which are covered in Resend's Data Processing Addemdum (DPA).

Fly.io
We use Fly.io to host Paper Pivot's website. We host it in an EU region offered by Fly.io. When you access our site, Fly.io may collect and process limited technical information, such as your IP address and request metadata, in transient server logs to deliver the service, maintain security, prevent abuse, and operate the platform. Simple Analytics
We use Simple Analytics to understand overall website usage while protecting your privacy. Simple Analytics is a privacy‑first, cookie‑less analytics service that does not collect personal data, does not store IP addresses, and does not use tracking or fingerprinting. We receive only aggregated, anonymous metrics (e.g., page views and referrers) to help us improve the site. Simple Analytics is EU-based and hosted, and does not transfer data outside of the EU. We ask our processors to follow appropriate security practices and act only on our instructions.

4. International data transfers

Your email address is stored in the United States by Resend. Transfers rely on SCCs and related safeguards, covered in Resend's DPA.

5. Data retention

We will retain your email address while you are on the waitlist, until you unsubscribe, until we launch Paper Pivot, or until we discontinue the project.

If we discontinue the project, we'll delete all waitlist emails within 60 days.
If we proceed to launch and you don't continue communications with us after the launch announcement, we'll delete your waitlist email within 60 days of that announcement.
Finally, if you unsubscribe, your email is removed automatically.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

Subject to legal limits, you can ask to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data; restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent at any time (which won't affect past processing).

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including secure transmission and access controls at our providers. No method is 100% secure, but we aim for a minimal data footprint.

8. Children's privacy

This service is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the project evolves. We will change the "Effective" date and, where appropriate, notify you by email.
